Nestled in the midst of Bukit Tinggi, there is a team of guardian angels of the green nature. Armed with a strong determination, they are all out to fulfil their mission. Over here, the duty of each person’ is interconnected to the objective of achieving a “green” planet through the initiatives of mankind.
Green Eco – a wonderful initiative
We arrived at Song Yan Eco-leisure Village after about one and a half hours drive from Kuala Lumpur. The warm sunshine and a gentle cool breeze made us slowed down our frantic pace of the city. Being surrounded by the green hills gave us a sense of relaxation in the highlands.
There is a kind of unspeakable sense of energy and one just need to inhale and exhale to feel it. With the birds and the bees dancing over the flowers and the grasses amidst the tranquil forests, Song Yan is the place so close to nature to invigorate your senses.
Why Song Yan?
Located at 1500ft above sea level, Song Yan was transformed from a simple holiday villa into an aesthetically designed eco-leisure farm with educational value. In Chinese “Song” means pine while “Yan” means rock and the place is literarily surrounded by pine trees and rocks. Numerous pine trees are planted here and many of the rocks are retained intact so as to maintain the natural environment as a main characteristic of the farm.
Song Yan is currently helmed by Jessie who has many years of experience in this field. The farm operates with utmost care and co-ordinated resources so as not to cause environmental pollution. Everything from the soil, compost, planting and breeding are all using natural materials. Throughout the conversation, Jessi exudes a sense of love for nature. She even has the patience to cultivate in her employees a sense to love the earth. Song Yan has 12 employees who manage all the services.

Jessie: “Ecological concept is about educating people”
Previously, most people would wish to migrate from the countryside to the city. Now, it is the reverse. Ecology is a vicious cycle, people will eventually return to the origin, it is inseparable with nature. Jessie opines that a simple ecology is in fact not simple to implement. She took three years to build the eco farm from scratch with the main purpose in mind is to educate.
This is a place so full of ions, a land with such strong aura that needs to be protected.
Therefore, we need to instil such kind of attitude from young who will give back to the earth. Ecological concept is also to create awareness on the importance of the ecological cycle. A healthy attitude will create a healthy ecosystem and vice versa.
The use of farming chemicals has more harm than good as it is also one of the factors for soil contamination. When human use farming chemicals in the cultivation of crops, it will eventually return to the human body when food is consumed. Our guests will learn about ecological concept through eating because we will let them know what goes into the food on the table. Therefore, Song Yan insists on no pesticides. Guests are invited to our farm to understand the process and the use of compost in our cultivation. Song Yan is self-sufficient in their agricultural produce and any excess are sold to guests. In addition, the farm also produces homemade fish enzymes and the multi-purpose fruit enzymes.
Green Ecological Paradise
Song Yan goes by the principle of preserving the ecological balance and hence, their gardens, vegetable plots and fish ponds are supplied with natural spring water from the mountains. Guests come to savour fresh vegetables, fruits and fish that are produced in-house by Song Yan. The mesmerizing nature and the rich ecological resources create an idyllic ambience for Song Yan Eco-leisure Farm. It is leisurely scene of puppies dashing in the yard, birds flapping in joy, fish swimming in the pond and ducks paddling in the puddle. You can even run around bare footed, stepping on the viable land or simply taking in the energy of nature. It is here that you will leave your troubles behind and enjoy the close encounter with nature.
